Maggie Gyllenhaal is reinventing 'Frankenstein' for a new generation with 'The Bride!,' a daring feminist reimagining of the gothic classic. The film, which she directs, puts Jessie Buckley in the spotlight as a punk-inspired bride of Frankenstein, while Christian Bale takes on the role of the tormented monster. Warner Bros. has just released a striking trailer, teasing the movie's theatrical debut on 6th March 2026.
Buckley and Bale lead a powerhouse ensemble that includes Penélope Cruz, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, Annette Bening, as well as Gyllenhaal’s husband Peter Sarsgaard and her brother Jake Gyllenhaal.
What is 'The Bride!' About?
Set in 1930s Chicago, 'The Bride!' follows Frankenstein's monster, played by Bale, as he searches for companionship. His journey leads him to groundbreaking scientist Dr Euphronious, portrayed by Annette Bening, who agrees to create a partner for him. Together, they resurrect a murdered young woman, giving life to Buckley's rebellious Bride. What follows is a whirlwind of passion, danger, and transformation, blending romance with social revolution and unbridled chaos.

What is Unique in 'The Bride!'?
Inspired by the 1935 cult classic 'Bride of Frankenstein' and Mary Shelley's timeless characters, Gyllenhaal's take brings modern edge and energy to the familiar tale. In this adaptation, Buckley's Bride doesn't simply exist as a creation—she desires love, independence, and sparks a radical cultural movement in the process.
The film 'The Bride!' also marks a reunion between Buckley and Gyllenhaal. The two previously collaborated on 'The Lost Daughter' in 2021, a project that earned Buckley her first Oscar nomination and cemented their creative partnership.
