With iconic roles in 'Good Will Hunting,' 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' 'Dead Poets Society,' 'Aladdin,' and numerous other films, Robin Williams continues to be one of Hollywood's most adored and versatile actors and comedians. He left a significant impact in comedy and movies when he passed away in August 2014 at the age of 63. More than ten years later, Zelda Williams, his daughter, has publicly condemned the use of artificial intelligence to create videos that imitate her father.
Zelda used her Instagram stories in recent days to demand that fans and producers should stop sending her and other people AI-generated clips of Robin Williams. She called these videos "gross," emotionally distressing, and extremely disrespectful to her father's memory and his family's sentiments.

Robin Williams had an impressive career that included dramatic acting, television, stand-up comedy, and animation. He became well-known for his rapid improvisational approach, limitless energy, and capacity to switch between genuine vulnerability and hilarity after winning an Oscar for 'Good Will Hunting' (1997). His work made a lasting impression on both viewers and other artists during his decades in the entertainment industry. His death by suicide in 2014 was met with shock, grief, and ongoing conversations about mental health.

Now, in 2025, the rise of generative AI has enabled people to re‑create or simulate his likeness, voice, and mannerisms, often in short videos or social media content. These AI-generated or deepfake videos now, raise challenging moral, artistic, and personal issues by using algorithms to voice or animate an actor long after their death. Zelda claims that these videos misrepresent respect, legacy, and emotional remembrance.
Zelda's Response
In a heartfelt and pointed Instagram Story, Zelda implored, "Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it…I don't and I won't…It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want." She continued by calling the practice of "puppeteering" the dead digitally "maddening," accusing those who do so of transforming life into "disgusting, over-processed hotdogs…shove[d] down someone else's throat…hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up." She also attacked the notion that AI content is "the future," saying that rather than producing original content, it only "recycles and regurgitates the past."
Zelda had previously voiced her opinions, calling AI voice recreations of her father "personally distressing" in 2023, particularly in light of the discussions surrounding permission and likeness reproduction in Hollywood during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
