BTS Aren’t Nominees but Performers at the Grammys
BTS have just been announced as performers on the Grammy 2020 stage, and fans are having mixed feelings.
The group, who were not nominated for any awards at the ceremony this year, made their Grammy debut last year. Their attendance at the award show reportedly led to a notable spike in the ceremony’s viewer ratings. The members were ecstatic at the invitation (it is every musicians dream to walk the Grammy red carpet), and were presenters in the ceremony, awarding H.E.R with her monumental win.
This year, the group will feature in a special performance by Lil Nas X, who will be performing his Grammy nominated hit “Old Town Road”. The young rapper will bring on BTS, Diplo and other guest features, notable artists he has collaborated with on remixes of the song. BTS’ RM featured on a remixed version titled “Seoul Town Road”, surprising fans world over. The group have publicly admired the young rappers work and are ardent fans.
The news of the lineup was received with mixed reactions, especially from their ARMY of fans. The group were left out of any music nominations at this years award show, along with various other “snubs”; Halsey’s “Without Me” was left out completely, while Taylor Swift received only two nominations.
BTS had the highest selling album with their 2019 release “Map Of The Soul: Persona”, raking in 3.5 million copies sold in physical album sales. The album also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200, making it their second album to do so. Many fans believed that their achievements are worthy of recognition, and weren’t too pleased by the announcement that they would be performing at this year’s award show.
The group just released their first lead single “Black Swan” from the upcoming album “Map Of The Soul: 7” and are due to premiere the performance on the Late Late Show With James Corden on 28th January.
