The first official trailer for 'Splitsville', a bold new comedy directed by Michael Angelo Covino, has arrived—and it's bringing a fresh dose of chaos, confusion, and humour about modern relationships. Starring Dakota Johnson ('Materialists') and Adria Arjona ('Andor'), the movie explores the complications of open marriages through a hilariously off-the-rails storyline.

Premiering earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, 'Splitsville' is set to hit theatres on 22nd August. The chaos begins when Ashley, played by Adria Arjona, drops a bombshell on her husband, Carey—she wants a divorce, catching him completely off guard. His dramatic reaction? Fleeing the car in shock and running straight to the upscale home of their married friends, Paul (Covino) and Julie (Johnson).

There, Carey learns that Paul and Julie credit their marital bliss to an open relationship. But when Carey ends up in bed with Julie, things spiral quickly. Instead of cool acceptance, the situation erupts into full-blown chaos—complete with a window-shattering fight, poolside brawls, and relationship meltdowns. As tensions escalate, the trailer promises a wild, high-energy journey packed with chaotic car wrecks, cringeworthy moments, and the unexpected appearance of a nude guitarist—because, why not?

The movie also features an ensemble cast including David Castañeda ('The Umbrella Academy'), Nicholas Braun ('Succession'), and O-T Fagbenle ('The Handmaid's Tale'), adding more comedic flair and tension to the already wild storyline.

Crew Onboard 'Splitsville'

Covino and Marvin bring a well-established creative partnership to the project, having previously co-written and starred in the 2019 indie hit 'The Climb', which also explored male insecurities and infidelity through dark humour. Covino has since appeared in movies like 'News of the World' and 'Riff Raff', while Marvin has taken on roles such as 'WeCrashed' and directed '80 for Brady'.

Dakota Johnson, known for her breakout role in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' franchise, continues her genre-spanning career with recent performances in 'Materialists' and the upcoming 'Verity', based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. Arjona, meanwhile, has built a strong resume with roles in 'Hit Man', 'Andor', and upcoming projects like Adam Wingard’s 'Onslaught' and Prime Video’s 'Criminal'.

Critics responded positively to 'Splitsville' at Cannes, with the film earning a 71% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers highlighted the sharp writing and committed performances, especially praising how the story digs into the emotional messiness and contradictions of supposedly "modern" relationship models.

With its mix of biting wit, physical comedy, and emotionally charged moments, 'Splitsville' promises to be a refreshing entry into the romantic comedy genre when it lands in theatres on 22nd August.
