Olivia Rodrigo Debuts at No.1 With New Song

Olivia Rodrigo ’s debut single ‘Driver’s License’, breaks the record previously held by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’, which debuted last year.

‘Drivers License’ saw 67.7 million on-demand audio streams in the United States from January 8th through January 14th, 2021.

A Big Win For The Ladies

Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single holds the best first-week streams for a proper first single by a female artist.

‘Drivers License’ now holds the record for the most streams for a song in a single week on Spotify. It broke the record for daily streams. “These are numbers that we’ve never witnessed before,” said Kevin Weatherly, Head of North American Programming at Spotify. “This is definitely a lightning in a bottle moment.”

Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well. 

Drivers License’ released on Geffen/Interscope Records and is the 1,116th No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100’s 62-year history. It’s the 48th single to debut on top, and the first of 2021. 

‘Drivers License’ drew 76.1 million U.S. streams and sold 38,000 downloads in the week ending January 14th, according to a data source. Yikes, those are some big numbers!

A Star In The Making

The singer-songwriter and actress initially rose to popularity with roles on Disney Channel, starring in Bizaardvark, and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019. Olivia Rodrigo ‘s background helped spark the popularity of ‘Drivers License’. The song has been under scrutiny about its lyrics, with a massive TikTok presence. Recently there was news about a co-sign from Taylor Swift

‘Driver’s License’ tells the tale of a young girl who finally gets her driver’s license and drives around crying, reminiscing about a lost love. Olivia Rodrigo’s lyrics explore her insecurities and the way she’s still haunted by her former love.
