Kobe, You Will be Missed

Today, we mourn the passing of the basketball legend, Kobe Bryant. Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, are among nine people that were killed in a helicopter crash in California. Bryant, who played for the LA Lakers throughout his career, was often looked up to by numerous sportspersons. While the cause of the crash is still being investigated, people across the world are already doing tributes to the Bryant. From basketball games to the Grammys, everyone is taking a moment to remember him.

Now, speaking of the Grammys, the host for the night, Alicia Keys, kicked off the ceremony with a moving tribute to the basketball player.

“We’re all feeling crazy sadness right now. Earlier today, Los Angeles, America and the whole wide world lost a hero. We’re literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built,” Keys said.

After her speech, Keys was joined by Boyz II Men and they performed a stunning rendition of the song “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye.” Alicia chose this song as she felt that it was the most fitting one for the night. “We wanted to do something that could describe a tiny bit how we all feel right now. We love you Kobe,” she added.

Numerous other artists also did a tribute to him once they took the stage. Before Lizzo’s brilliant performance of her breakthrough hits, ‘Cuz I Love You’ and ‘Truth Hurts’ she began by saying, “Tonight is for Kobe.” Tributes continued to pour through the rest of the show as Bryant’s #24 jersey even appeared in Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and Aerosmith’s performances. A number of musicians also took to social media to mourn his loss. From Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Cardi B, to Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Ice Cube, everyone spoke out about the basketball legend.

We will miss you, Kobe.
