Rosalia & Travis Scott Stand by a Law of Silence in ‘TKN’
Rosalia and Travis Scott finally dropped their much awaited collab titled, ‘TKN’. This tune arrived with its very own music video. It also marks Rosalia’s third single of 2020 and her second collaboration with the rap star, Travis Scott.
Now, ‘TKN’ is out to get you grooving from start to finish. This reggaeton-infused fight song juggles verses of both English and Spanish. Between Rosalia’s husky vocals and Scott’s distorted falsettos, this is the kind of song that makes you feel like you can take on the world. Some of this sentiment seeps into the writing, but curiously, for a number this groovy, you wouldn’t expect the lyrics to be so dark. And yet, they are…
Family’s business you’re not supposed to listen
The bosses with the bosses and I’m the momma
The secrets only to who you can trust
You better not break the Omertà*
There are levels for everything in this life
We don’t f–k with people we don’t know
No new friends, no new wounds
No new friends, no new wounds
Interestingly enough, the word ‘Omerta’ truly holds the lyrics and concept together. It refers to a law of silence. A Sicilian code of honor that places importance on silence in the face of questioning by authorities or outsiders. And if you glance over the lyrics once again, you’ll see that they revolve around this very law.
What Rosalia & Travis Scott Have to Offer with the Music Video
The music video, directed by Nicolás Méndez, is a picture of freedom, restlessness and anarchy. It shows us Rosalia acting as a mother figure to an unruly pack of children. It’s worth mentioning that these kids also dance superbly, their choreography is on point which is truly commendable for kids who don’t look older than 12. When they’re not dancing, they’re either roaming the streets of Los Angeles or getting pampered by Rosalia. And all the while, Travis Scott simply looks on.
This make’s the duo’s second project together, their first being ‘Highest in the Room’ which came out in early 2019 and saw raging success. And even now, we can safely put our bets on the table and say that this tune will also go on to become a chart topper.
