Fans of Colleen Hoover will need to wait a bit longer for the big-screen adaptation of her bestselling psychological thriller film 'Verity'. Amazon MGM Studios has officially pushed the film’s release to 2nd October, 2026—so mark your calendars! It was originally set for 15th May, but now fans will have to wait a little longer.
Directed by Michael Showalter, 'Verity' stars Anne Hathaway as the enigmatic author Verity Crawford, alongside Dakota Johnson and others. The new release date places it in direct competition with Warner Bros.’ untitled project starring Tom Cruise, also set to premiere on the same day.
The screenplay for 'Verity' has been shaped by several writers, including Nick Antosca, who took over the most recent draft following earlier work by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the writing duo Will Honley and April Maguire. The production team includes a strong lineup of industry names such as Hathaway, Hoover, Showalter, and many more.

What is 'Verity' About?
Based on Hoover’s 2018 novel, 'Verity' follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer portrayed by Dakota Johnson. She’s hired by Jeremy Crawford (played by Josh Hartnett) to finish a successful book series written by his wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who has been incapacitated by a mysterious accident. While working on the project, Lowen discovers a hidden manuscript that could unravel shocking truths about the Crawford family.
Colleen Hoover's popularity in Hollywood continues to soar, following the success of 'It Ends With Us', which was adapted by Sony with Blake Lively in the lead role. 'Verity', which was initially self-published in 2018 and later acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, became a New York Times bestseller and remains one of Hoover’s most talked-about thrillers.

Director Michael Showalter reunites with Hathaway after their previous collaboration on 'The Idea of You', a romantic drama based on Robinne Lee’s novel, which debuted in 2024 on Amazon MGM Studios.
With its compelling cast, gripping storyline, and Hoover's built-in fanbase, 'Verity' is expected to be one of Fall 2026’s most anticipated releases.
