Selena Gomez became a household name through her breakout role as Alex Russo in the fantasy sitcom 'Wizards of Waverly Place', but her fiancé, Benny Blanco, recently revealed he had never seen the hit Disney Channel show until they began their relationship.
During his appearance on the Therapuss With Jake Shane podcast, the music producer shared that while he knew Gomez had started her career as a child star, he wasn’t familiar with the series that made her famous. While getting prepared for 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place', Gomez got a sweet surprise—Blanco asked to binge the original series with her.

Despite his initial lack of interest, Benny Blanco said Gomez eventually showed him a few standout scenes from the show, helping him appreciate the charm and humour that won over a generation of fans. He admitted that the only aspect he recognised before watching it was the theme song, which he associated with Billie Eilish’s track 'Bad Guy,' due to its inspiration from the original tune.
Benny Blanco Was Unaware of Jonas Brothers
Blanco’s unfamiliarity with Disney Channel extended beyond Gomez’s show. Blanco admitted he didn’t even know who the Jonas Brothers were until 'Sucker' dropped in 2019. While Gomez was busy dating Nick Jonas back in their Disney era, Blanco was just a bit older—and totally missed that whole pop culture wave.
