BTS members RM and V have been discharged from the South Korean military today, June 10, after fulfilling their mandatory service. RM and V, along with Jimin and Jungkook, began their military enlistment in late 2023, with Big Hit Music confirming their readiness. The duo bid farewell to fans in letters before starting their service on December 11.

Upon their release in Chuncheon City, RM and V saluted, cheered on by roughly 200 fans, including some who had travelled from Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil. V reportedly expressed his deep gratitude to the ARMYs who had waited for them during their military service. He also hinted at an upcoming BTS reunion, asking fans to "wait just a little longer" for a "really cool performance."

Other BTS members, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, had already started their conscription when RM and V enlisted. Jin began his service in December 2022, followed by J-Hope in April of the subsequent year. Jin was discharged last summer, and J-Hope followed in October. Jimin and Jungkook are scheduled for discharge tomorrow, June 11. Suga is currently fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, an alternative to military service, and is expected to be released later this month.

Speaking to Apple Music 1 last month, J-Hope expressed his anticipation for June, when all members would have completed their service, stating that they would "quickly get together and talk about what BTS can do in the future," expecting a "massive energy." He had previously told Weverse Magazine last December that a full group reunion would have a "huge impact," with "everybody watching," and expressed excitement to perform together again, wanting to "come back in style and say, 'This is us. This is BTS.'" He added that he believed the other members shared the same sentiment.

BTS Hiatus, Solo Work, and Military Service Policy

BTS went on hiatus in 2022 to allow members to complete their mandatory service and explore solo projects. Last month, Jin released his second solo project, 'Echo'.

South Korean men between 18 and 35 are required to serve 18 months in the military. In October 2022, it was confirmed BTS would serve mandatory military terms without special exemptions, despite public debate on their economic contributions meriting allowances.
