Emma Stone is back in another mind-bending cinematic journey, teaming up once again with acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos in the first official teaser for 'Bugonia'. Recently unveiled by Focus Features, the trailer teases a dark comedy with a twist of genres, penned by Will Tracy and featuring a standout cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, among others.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, following the critically acclaimed 'The Favourite' (2018), the Oscar-winning 'Poor Things' (2023), and 'Kinds of Kindness' (2024). In 'Bugonia', Stone takes on the role of Michelle Fuller, a powerful corporate CEO whose true identity becomes the subject of a bizarre conspiracy theory.
What is 'Bugonia' About?
The story follows two young men obsessed with conspiracy theories who become convinced that Michelle is actually an alien plotting Earth's destruction.
They decide to kidnap her, launching a chaotic and surreal chain of events. Jesse Plemons plays Teddy Gatz, a metaphor-loving eccentric seen in the teaser dressed in a beekeeping suit, speaking cryptically about flowers, honeybees, and societal collapse.
The trailer of 'Bugonia' blends absurdist humour with sharp social commentary, set against a backdrop of high-stakes paranoia. As Teddy explains his theories about alien infiltration and dying bees, Michelle strides confidently through corporate halls in sleek power suits — a stark contrast that hints at the movie’s tone-shifting narrative. A burst of Green Day’s Basket Case punctuates a montage filled with unhinged conspiracies and wild antics.

Stone not only stars in 'Bugonia' but also serves as co-producer alongside Lanthimos, Ed Guiney, and others. The movie follows the Cannes premiere of Stone’s recent project, Eddington, and continues her successful streak in bold, unconventional roles.
Following her second Academy Award win for Best Actress in 'Poor Things', Stone’s return in 'Bugonia' adds to her growing reputation as one of Hollywood’s most fearless and versatile performers.
The movie will debut in select theatres on 24th October, 2025, with a wide release scheduled for 31st October. The movie promises an unpredictable mix of satire, sci-fi, and psychological twists, making it a must-watch for fans of both Stone and Lanthimos.
