Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for 'Steve', a gripping mid-1990s drama starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy in the lead role. The film is a cinematic reimagining of Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller 'Shy' and explores a single, transformative day in the life of Steve, a headteacher at a last-chance reform school.
Set against the backdrop of a system that has seemingly abandoned its most vulnerable youth, Steve struggles to protect the institution from imminent closure while wrestling with his own declining mental health. Parallel to his journey is that of Shy, a deeply troubled teenager portrayed by Jay Lycurgo, who is torn between his difficult past and an uncertain future, battling both self-destructive impulses and fragile hope.
What Does 'Steve' Trailer Offer?
The trailer of 'Steve' opens with a weary Steve describing himself as “very, very tired,” before revealing scenes of him forming fragile connections with students and quietly leaning on substances to manage the mounting pressure. Shy challenges him to confront his own struggles, turning their dynamic into a mirror of shared vulnerability.
As tensions escalate, Steve’s world begins to unravel amidst chaos in the school halls, underscoring the film’s central theme of human connection in the face of isolation.
