A resurfaced clip of Doja Cat has reignited debate around her dynamic with fans, following years of tension and controversy. The latest incident began after a TikTok video showed the rapper meeting influencer Pablo Tamayo at a bar, where he expressed admiration for her music and offered her a shirt from his clothing line. After Doja accepted, Tamayo removed his own shirt and handed it to her. The video appeared light-hearted, with Doja seen laughing, hugging him, and seemingly enjoying the interaction.
However, shortly after the video gained traction online, Doja Cat expressed her frustration in a series of social media posts. In a now-deleted post, she criticised Tamayo, writing that she had thrown the shirt away and warning that smiling at someone didn’t mean she liked them. She also took issue with being touched and “manhandled” by someone who didn’t know her personally, calling the interaction “crazy” and saying she should have spoken up in the moment.
Tamayo responded via TikTok, saying he was surprised and hurt by her comments. He acknowledged that if he came across as overly enthusiastic, he would take responsibility, adding that he meant no harm and that he admired her deeply.
Doja Cat addresses recent fan interaction that left her feeling uncomfortable:

“i honestly think i need to stand up for myself in the moment sometimes. and he didn’t even kno my f**kin name to be touching me and kissing me on my face like that is crazy.” pic.twitter.com/nrblr0Ni7v
The incident has since sparked heated reactions online. Some people sided with Doja, arguing she has the right to set boundaries and shouldn’t have to tolerate physical contact from strangers. Others criticised her for being harsh, noting that her body language in the video suggested she was comfortable during the encounter.
One commenter argued that Doja was completely justified in her reaction, pointing out that giving someone a shirt straight off your back could easily be seen as inappropriate. Others pointed out that Tamayo had no way of knowing she was uncomfortable, given her warm response at the time.
This is not the first time Doja’s fan interactions have stirred controversy. In previous years, she publicly rejected the idea of saying she loved her fans, saying she didn’t know them personally and referring to some as “creepy”. She’s also been critical of fans who bring children to her shows and of those who comment on her appearance.
Doja Cat Teases New Album ‘Vie’ Amid Fan Controversy
In the midst of this latest backlash, Doja Cat has also been teasing new music. She previewed tracks from her upcoming album, reportedly titled ‘Vie’, on Instagram and revealed a tracklist back in April. The new LP will be her first since 2023’s ‘Scarlet’. Earlier this year, she also released a collaboration with Jack Harlow titled ‘Just Us’, accompanied by a high-profile video featuring Matt Damon, John Mayer, PinkPantheress, and Nicholas Braun.
