A New Chapter for an Infamous Landmark
Constructed in the 18th century, the farmhouse at 1677 Round Top Road gained notoriety as the home of the Perron family in the 1970s. Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators, were drawn to the Perron family's unsettling encounters with a potential ghost named Bathsheba Sherman, which ultimately served as the inspiration for the 2013 blockbuster 'The Conjuring' franchise. Both believers and doubters have been drawn to the site despite—or maybe because of—its sinister past.
For an estimated $1.5 million, Boston developer Jacqueline Nuñez bought the home in 2022 and transformed it into a ghost-tourism destination that offers paranormal investigations and overnight stays. In August 2023, WPRI reported that Nuñez fired her property manager after claiming the spirit of former owner John Arnold told her the worker was stealing.

The bizarre firing set off a legal battle over back pay and opened the door for other ex-employees to accuse Nuñez of mistreatment. This scandal quickly ensued: claims of ghosting led to terminations, license disputes, and legal issues, and eventually, losing her entertainment license resulted in a foreclosure auction. The property will now be up for auction on Halloween by JJManning Auctioneers, which is a suitable date given its eerie reputation.
Legacy, Celebrity Interest, and What Lies Ahead
Due to its vivid legend, the property is highly sought after by collectors, real estate speculators, and notable members of the paranormal world. YouTuber Elton Castee and comic Matt Rife, who already own the occult museum and the Connecticut house of Ed and Lorraine Warren, are apparently interested in the purchase. They have stated that they would like to add the Conjuring House to their collection of paranormal artefacts.

The farmhouse is more than just a piece of real estate; it is a tangible reminder of horror culture. Its complex history—from eerie legends to inspiration for Hollywood blockbusters—guarantees that its legacy will last long after this Halloween auction, regardless of whether the future owner views it as a museum, a tourist destination, or a private specimen.
The House That Launched a Horror Empire
The farmhouse is more than simply a frightening old home—it's the cornerstone of one of the most successful horror franchises in film history. 'The Conjuring' (2013), which portrayed the Perron family's experience inside the house, was directed by James Wan and launched an interrelated cinematic world that includes 'Annabelle,' 'The Nun,' and 'The Curse of La Llorona.'

The spooky depiction of the house in the first movie solidified its status as a pop culture phenomenon, and with each new release, its legacy grew. Fans are now experiencing a newfound interest in the origins of the franchise as its final movie, 'The Conjuring: Last Rites,' is currently in theaters.
The timing of the auction couldn't be more symbolic, as the curtains close on the story that started inside those haunted Rhode Island walls.
