Supergirl is taking flight in her first solo adventure in the DC Universe!
Following Milly Alcock’s surprise cameo as Kara Zor-El at the end of 'Superman', DC Studios co-chair James Gunn has confirmed that the heroine will return in a standalone movie titled 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow'.
Gunn recently shared a playful promo on X, featuring Supergirl casually sipping a blue slushy. The post was a clear nod to the marketing campaign for 'Superman', which used the tagline “Look Up.”Gunn dropped a teaser for the DC reboot, hinting at Supergirl’s big-screen arrival with a bold, “Look Out. 2026”, signalling a June 2026 debut.
'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' will be the second feature in the new DCU lineup, following 'Superman', and is set to release in June 2026. Directed by 'I Tonya' filmmaker Craig Gillespie, the movie will spotlight Kara Zor-El’s journey after her brief appearance alongside David Corenswet’s Superman.

What is the 'Supergirl' Character About?
At just 25, 'House of the Dragon' star Milly Alcock is stepping into the cape as the new heroine. Gunn has described her character as far more complex and emotionally turbulent than her cousin, Clark Kent. While Superman was raised in a nurturing environment by loving parents, Kara’s upbringing was shaped by hardship, making her a very different kind of hero.
When Alcock was cast earlier this year, Gunn shared his admiration for the young actress. Although he first noticed her in 'House of the Dragon', what truly impressed him were her screen tests and the emotional depth she brought to the role of 'Supergirl'. He praised her ability to embody the character of Kara fully and expressed excitement about her future in the DCU.

The film is based on the acclaimed 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' comic book arc and will introduce a lineup of new characters. The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s Kryptonian parents. Fan-favourite superdog Krypto will also make an appearance, adding a bit of fun to the action. Additionally, Jason Momoa is returning to the DC Universe as Lobo, the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter and anti-hero.
As anticipation builds, fans can look forward to a darker, more mature take on Supergirl’s legacy, one that explores the emotional depth and cosmic challenges of being a Kryptonian far from home.
