James Gunn has firmly rejected circulating rumours that Robin will make an appearance in 'The Batman 2'. The DC Studios co-chairman addressed fans on social media, urging them not to believe false claims and emphasising that very few people have read the film’s script.
The sequel to the 2022 hit 'The Batman' is currently in pre-production, with Matt Reeves returning as director alongside co-writer Matson Tomlin. Filming is scheduled to begin in spring, and the movie is set for release on 1st October, 2027. Despite its early stage of development, online speculation has been rampant, with some fans convinced that Batman’s iconic sidekick, Dick Grayson, would be joining the story.

James Gunn Rejects Storyline Rumours
James Gunn made it clear that such rumours have no basis in fact, stating that the concept and storyline are known only to a small handful of individuals involved in the project. He also pointed out that much of what is being discussed online is either fabricated or purely speculative.
Previously, James Gunn had defended the measured pace of 'The Batman 2’s progress, suggesting that audiences should be patient and not expect constant updates.
The first film, featuring Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell, was a hit with both critics and audiences.
Unlike earlier adaptations, it skipped over Batman’s origin story and instead portrayed Bruce Wayne as an isolated, battle-weary figure navigating Gotham’s corruption.

Although 'The Batman' films exist outside the continuity of Gunn’s newly launched DC Universe — which began with 'Superman' starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan — James Gunn has acknowledged that crossovers between Pattinson’s 'Batman' and Corenswet’s 'Superman' have been discussed. However, he noted that this is not currently in development and plans are still being determined.
With production on 'The Batman 2' moving forward, fans can expect more details to emerge in the coming years — but for now, Gunn’s message is clear: don’t believe everything you read online.
