Jenna Ortega Reveals Tim Burton Keeps a ‘Jar of Eyeballs’ in His House
Jenna Ortega is gearing up to play Astrid Deetz in Tim Burton’s upcoming fantasy-comedy horror film ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, alongside Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. Additionally, Ortega will return for season 2 of Netflix’s hit series ‘Wednesday’. Having praised her collaborations with Burton in past interviews, Ortega recently shared some eerie details about the director’s California home.
In a Vanity Fair interview, the 21-year-old actress revealed some intriguing insights into Burton’s residence. She described walking into his house and immediately encountering a “huge throne from ‘Alice in Wonderland’,” and noted the presence of a “jar of eyeballs in the bathroom.” Ortega also mentioned that Burton often carries “little creatures” in his pockets.

Reflecting on her experience working on the highly anticipated ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel, Ortega said she wanted to “remember it for the rest of [her] life” every time she stepped onto the set. She also shared her reaction to seeing co-star Michael Keaton in his Betelgeuse costume for the first time, recalling how she “felt [her] soul leave [her] body” before Keaton casually sat down for tea between takes.
In the same interview, Ortega made headlines by addressing a serious issue in the entertainment industry. She criticized the pressure to be politically correct, arguing that it leads to a “loss of integrity” and diminishes “humanity.” She expressed a desire for more open conversations, where people could share their thoughts freely, sparking debates rather than arguments.
Burton has also spoken highly of Ortega, particularly regarding her role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series ‘Wednesday’, for which he directed four episodes. He praised Ortega for bringing “clarity, purity, and strength” to the character, noting that she’s one of the “most aware” people on set. Burton called her a “very special talent,” highlighting her extensive work in horror films, which he “loves,” and said this experience gave her a “special place in [his] heart.”
‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is set to hit theatres on September 6, 2024, and will feature a star-studded cast, including Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe.
