Jim Carrey may be heading into the futuristic world of 'The Jetsons' for his next project. Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly developing a live-action adaptation of the iconic animated sitcom, with Carrey, 63, in discussions to take a leading role. The film is expected to be written and directed by 'Jurassic World' director Colin Trevorrow, with Joe Epstein co-writing the screenplay.

Jim Carrey, who had previously hinted at retiring from acting in 2022, later clarified that he was more focused on taking a temporary "power-rest" rather than stepping away entirely.

He has remained active in recent years, starring as Dr Robotnik in three 'Sonic the Hedgehog' films from 2020 to 2024.

More on 'The Jetsons'

'The Jetsons,' created by Hanna-Barbera Productions and originally aired on ABC in 1963, is a futuristic counterpart to The Flintstones. The series follows George, Jane, Judy, and Elroy Jetson, along with their robotic maid Rosie and family dog Astro.

Over the decades, the characters have appeared in television movies, comic books, video games, and the 1990 theatrical release 'The Jetsons: The Movie.' While The Flintstones successfully transitioned to live-action films in the 1990s, The Jetsons has yet to receive a live-action adaptation.

This project would mark another instance where Jim Carrey brings a beloved animated character to life, following his acclaimed performance as the Grinch in 2000's 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas.' Fans of the original sitcom are likely to be eager to see how the futuristic world of the Jetsons is reimagined for the big screen, blending Jim Carrey's comedic talents with the high-tech charm of the 'Space Age' family.
