Jonathan Bailey is embracing his musical roots unexpectedly and emotionally in the movie movie'Jurassic World: Rebirth'. While chatting on a recent episode of the Jimmy Fallon show, the 37-year-old actor shared the surprising story of how he ended up playing a clarinet solo in the film’s official score—an unexpected twist he happily described as one of the standout moments of his career.
While starring in a London production of Richard II, Jonathan Bailey learned that 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' director Gareth Edwards was recording Alexandre Desplat’s new score—featuring elements of John Williams' original 'Jurassic Park' theme—at the iconic Abbey Road Studios. Curious and excited, he visited the studio just to observe and found himself overwhelmed by the sound of the 105-piece orchestra in action.

As the week progressed, Bailey, a lifelong clarinet enthusiast, asked if he could bring his instrument along. Though his initial hope was simply to play a single note, the opportunity quickly grew into something much bigger.
Jonathan Bailey and the Clarinet Moment
When a clarinet solo came up, Desplat initially invited Bailey to play, but nerves got the better of him, and he declined. Regret hit almost immediately. So when another solo arose, Desplat gave him one more chance, telling him it was now or never.
Bailey stepped into the spotlight by not only composing but also performing the theme for his character, Dr. Henry Loomis—a powerful piece that’s now a standout in the film’s official score.

The moment was especially meaningful for Jonathan Bailey, who began playing the clarinet as a child in 1993—the same year 'Jurassic Park' was released—after his grandfather gifted him a plastic clarinet, won in a pub. He reflected on the full-circle moment, noting that pursuing something you love can lead to unforgettable experiences.
Jonathan Bailey joins forces with Scarlett Johansson in 'Jurassic World: Rebirth', the highly anticipated adventure arriving in theatres on 2nd July. The actor’s unexpected clarinet solo adds a personal and nostalgic note to the latest instalment in the iconic franchise.
