Movie lovers at the New York Film Festival got more than they anticipated for when 'Marty Supreme' was unveiled as a "secret screening" at Alice Tully Hall. During the hush-hush premiere, Timothée Chalamet and director Josh Safdie went onstage to announce that the movie they were about to see was Marty Supreme's world premiere. The surprise provided fans a preview of what could turn out to be one of Chalamet's most audacious parts to date and marked a dramatic, high-energy beginning to the film's public existence.

A Sudden Debut and Home Town Sentiment

On 6th October, when the lights went down, the audience realized they were not at an anonymous mystery screening but rather the premiere of 'Marty Supreme.' The suspense and excitement were increased when Safdie said that he had completed the cut at two in the morning that same day. Chalamet described the scene as "f—ing wonderful," and described the movie as a "love letter to New York."

Cast, Plot, and Production Highlights

Following Marty Mauser (played by Chalamet), a youthful and bold table tennis hustler in 1950s New York, 'Marty Supreme' aims to gain respect and compete on the international scene. Safdie and co-writer Ronald Bronstein reinvented the story with flair and invention, but the film is not strictly a biography, even though it is largely inspired by real-life ping-pong figure Marty Reisman.
