Matthew McConaughey leads Apple TV+'s gripping new film 'The Lost Bus,' a survival drama inspired by California's 2018 Camp Fire, the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history. The Oscar winner plays Kevin McKay, a determined father who risks everything to rescue a teacher and her students trapped amid the blaze.

The film marks a family affair for McConaughey, as his 17-year-old son Levi and his mother, Kay McConaughey, both appear alongside him. The newly released 'The Lost Bus' trailer offers glimpses of Levi's rebellious character ignoring his father, while Kay portrays a deeply emotional presence in another tense moment.

Joining the cast is America Ferrera, fresh off her 'Barbie' Oscar nomination, who takes on the role of Mary Ludwig, the dedicated teacher fighting to protect her students. The movie is adapted from Lizzie Johnson's book 'Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire,' which chronicles the real events of Northern California's Butte County tragedy.

What Does 'The Lost Bus' Feature?

The trailer sets the tone with Kevin McKay shown as a man facing personal struggles, who sees the dangerous mission as a chance at redemption. Ferrera's character, meanwhile, expresses her misplaced belief that safety could be guaranteed simply by following the rules, underscoring the fire's devastating unpredictability.

As the chaos unfolds, the bus is surrounded by walls of fire while children cry out for their families. Director Paul Greengrass, known for 'Captain Phillips' and 'United 93,' brings his signature intensity to the project, blending harrowing realism with high-stakes action. Scenes of emergency vehicles racing, aircraft barely outpacing smoke, and McConaughey shouting for passengers to hold on emphasise both the danger and humanity at the story's core.

'The Lost Bus' opens in select theatres on 19th September and begins streaming worldwide on Apple TV+ from 3rd October.
