Pop star and actress Sabrina Carpenter is reportedly in consideration for a role in the upcoming third Mamma Mia! film, as the long-rumoured sequel continues to take shape behind the scenes.
The Mamma Mia! film series, based on the beloved ABBA stage musical, began with its first movie in 2008 and was followed by a sequel a decade later. Although there’s been no official casting announcement, speculation around a third installment has been ongoing, especially after producer Judy Craymer previously hinted at plans for a trilogy.
Recent interviews have added momentum to the project. Craymer revealed that development is underway and that the team has a clear idea of where the story is heading. Without offering full details, she described the next film as a continuation of the ensemble-driven, music-filled storytelling that made the previous entries popular.

Carpenter’s potential involvement came up during a recent conversation Craymer had with Deadline, where she implied that the singer could play a character with a mystical or family connection to Meryl Streep’s role, possibly resembling her in some way. While Craymer did not confirm Carpenter’s casting, the comment was enough to spark fan interest.
The original cast also seems enthusiastic about returning. Actors like Christine Baranski and Pierce Brosnan have spoken positively about the idea, with Brosnan reportedly saying he believed his co-stars would gladly reunite if the story was strong enough.
In addition to the film, Craymer mentioned that a television adaptation of Mamma Mia! is also a possibility in the future. She described the concept as a musical comedy-drama, though clarified that it’s not currently in development.
Although no plot details or release timeline have been revealed, the project appears to be gaining traction, and the possibility of fresh faces like Carpenter joining the beloved cast has only added to the anticipation.
