‘Stranger Things’ is taking its final battle from Hawkins to the big screen.

Netflix announced that the two-hour series finale of 'Stranger Things' season 5 will play in select theatres across the U.S. and Canada alongside its global streaming debut. Screenings will begin on 31st December, perfectly timed with the episode's worldwide release on Netflix, and will continue through 1st January, 2026.

Duffer Brothers are Excited For 'Stranger Things' Theatrical Release

The long-awaited theatrical event marks a dream come true for series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, who have been eager for fans to experience the show's final chapter in a cinematic setting.

The duo expressed their excitement over finally bringing 'Stranger Things' to theatres, saying that watching the finale with a packed audience, complete with top-quality sound and visuals, feels like the ultimate way to celebrate the end of their beloved series.

Their passion for the big-screen experience is also one of the key reasons the Duffer Brothers are parting ways with Netflix for future projects, as they prepare to develop new films and series under a fresh deal with Paramount.

Why 'Stranger Things' is Getting Theatrical Release?

While Netflix's chief creative officer, Bela Bajaria, had previously indicated that the finale would remain a streaming-only release, new discussions behind the scenes ultimately paved the way for the limited theatrical rollout.

Matt Duffer has noted that watching the series in theatres allows fans to truly appreciate the meticulous work put into the show’s sound design and visual effects—elements that often lose impact when viewed at home.

Additional details on fan events, participating theatres, and ticket availability are expected to be announced later this year.
