Taylor Swift and Blake Lively's once-celebrated friendship appears to be on pause as reports claim the two are not currently speaking. Their relationship, long considered one of Hollywood's most genuine bonds, has become strained following Lively’s legal dispute with actor and director Justin Baldoni — a situation in which Swift’s name has repeatedly surfaced.

According to a source close to the situation, the two stars are not in contact right now. This follows months of tension linked to Lively’s legal case over 'It Ends With Us,' the film Baldoni directed and starred in. In January, Baldoni’s legal documents claimed Taylor Swift allegedly influenced him to accept script rewrites proposed by Lively. Though those claims were dismissed, the mention of Swift sparked widespread media attention and reportedly caused her distress.

Baldoni’s team later issued and then dropped a subpoena for Taylor Swift, which her camp argued was a publicity tactic rather than a relevant legal move. This added further strain to the friendship, with insiders saying Swift felt blindsided and hurt by being dragged into the dispute.

What Are The Speculations Swirling Around?

The timing coincides with Swift’s upcoming 12th studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl,' scheduled for release on 3rd October. One track, titled 'Ruin the Friendship,' has fueled speculation among fans that it may be inspired by her fallout with Lively. Taylor Swift recently told listeners on Travis Kelce’s podcast that she completed the album during the European leg of her Eras Tour, before getting pulled into the legal controversy — but fans still believe the track’s title may reference their deteriorating bond.

Sources have suggested that although Taylor Swift and Lively are not speaking at the moment, their friendship may not be permanently over. Since April 2025, insiders have described their relationship as "on pause," with both needing time apart. As of mid-year, another source claimed they were civil and trying to move forward, but things were not the same as before.

Swift and Lively first became friends in 2014, and their close connection extended into family as Taylor Swift became godmother to one of Lively’s daughters with Ryan Reynolds. Swift even featured the voices and names of Lively’s children in her 'Reputation' and 'Folklore' albums.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether the two stars reconcile — and if 'Ruin the Friendship' offers any lyrical clues about where their relationship stands today.
