Teresa Palmer is the most recent high-profile signee for Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming submarine action-thriller 'Subversion,' which already has a stellar cast that includes Chris Hemsworth and Lily James. The film, which was written by Andrew Ferguson and directed by Patrick Vollrath, centers on Hemsworth, a once-respected navy commander who is compelled to navigate a submarine carrying illicit goods while being pursued by a relentless Coast Guard officer (James).
The addition of Palmer and a number of other cast members heightens the suspense for what looks to be a gripping, high-stakes thriller. Although Amazon MGM has not yet provided a definitive release date, filming at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland, started in September 2025.
Premise: "Die Hard Under the Sea"
'Subversion' is marketed as an edged, high-tension underwater thriller. Chris Hemsworth portrays a military officer who, after being respected and treated with honour, gets blackmailed into operating a submarine carrying illicit cargo across hazardous international waters.

Lily James portrays the tenacious Coast Guard officer pursuing him, creating a game of cat and mouse both outside and in the cramped, high-stress submersible. The movie is being likened to "Die Hard on a submarine," emphasizing its blend of suspense, peril, and the excitement of limited space.
New Cast Additions & Teresa Palmer's Role
The ensemble cast, which includes Chris Hemsworth, Lily James, Michael Peña, Joe Cole, Simone Kessell, Robert John Burke, and David Wenham, now includes Teresa Palmer. Although her exact part is still unknown, it is anticipated that she will play a key role in the ensemble because of the film's structure of conflict between Coast Guard, cartel, and naval elements.
With previous credits including 'Knight of Cups,' 'Warm Bodies,' 'Hacksaw Ridge,' and 'A Discovery of Witches' on television, Palmer is no stranger to both serious and action roles.
Other cast members, like the versatile Michael Peña, Joe Cole, Lily James, and supporting performers Simone Kessell and David Wenham, will add even more depth.
Production Status & What We Know So Far
On 15th September, filming began at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen are executive producers, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura is the producer for Di Bonaventura Pictures.
Although there is still no official release date, many anticipate that 'Subversion' will be available either in late 2025 or early 2026, assuming post‑production and distribution follow typical schedules for Amazon MGM's theatrical/streaming rollout.
