Benson Boone Performs Two Tracks from Upcoming Album During ‘SNL’ Appearance

Benson Boone made his Saturday Night Live debut on 3rd April, performing two tracks from his upcoming album American Heart, which is set to arrive on 20th June via Night Street Records/Warner. The singer-songwriter delivered live renditions of songs that have already begun building anticipation for the release, including his February single that had served as the album’s introduction. During the show, Boone briefly directed part of his performance to host Quinta Brunson before joining his band on stage.
He also performed a track that had premiered earlier in the month during his set at Coachella. That festival appearance made headlines not just for the song itself but for Boone’s surprise collaboration with Queen guitarist Brian May. Together, they performed a cover of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ followed by a special version of Boone’s own ‘Beautiful Things.’ However, the crowd’s underwhelming response to May’s guest appearance sparked reactions online. At Coachella’s second weekend, Boone responded by bringing out a cardboard cutout of May, complete with a guitar — a tongue-in-cheek nod to the initial reception.

Some fans have speculated that the Brian May cameo was a playful acknowledgment of frequent comparisons between Boone and Freddie Mercury. Boone’s theatrical stage presence, call-and-response moments, and bold fashion choices have all drawn parallels to the legendary Queen frontman.
In the wake of his Coachella performances, Boone addressed online criticism through a TikTok post. He encouraged detractors to offer constructive feedback rather than vague negativity, pointing out the difficulty in growing as an artist when faced with comments lacking substance. He cited one remark that said disliking him “just felt right,” questioning how he was supposed to improve based on that kind of feedback. Boone urged critics to be specific, even offering examples of valid critiques — such as relying too heavily on physical stunts or being judged based on a single overplayed track.
His breakout single ‘Beautiful Things’ continues to make waves, earning a nomination for International Song of the Year at the 2025 BRIT Awards. Boone also received a nod for International Artist of the Year. Earlier this year, he performed the song at the Grammys, where he was a contender for Best New Artist, a title that ultimately went to Chappell Roan.
