As of 20th September, the most recent installment in the 28 Days Later series, '28 Years Later,' is finally available for streaming on Netflix. The film, which was written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle, is the first installment of a recently announced trilogy and is set over thirty years after the Rage virus first ravaged England.

Plot, Setting, and New Faces in the Infected World
Holy Island (Lindisfarne), off the northern coast of England, is the setting for '28 Years Later.' There, survivors have established a remote hamlet cut off from the mainland by a causeway that floods during high tide. As Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), his son Spike (Alfie Williams), and wife Isla (Jodie Comer) must guide Spike on a perilous journey outside the walls of their island home, the story follows them.

Dr. Ian Kelson, played by Ralph Fiennes, is haunted by his history as a physician prior to the viral breakout. Stella Gonet, Edvin Ryding, and Jack O'Connell play supporting parts beside them.
Release Timeline, Netflix Streaming & What's Next
On 20th June, Sony Pictures released '28 Years Later' in theaters across the US, UK, and Canada. On 29th July, it went on sale for digital purchase or rental (PVOD), and from 22nd September, its physical media (Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and DVD) will be accessible. In the US, it is available for streaming on Netflix as of 20th September.
According to Sony's agreements, it might arrive later in other areas. As of right now, Nia DaCosta is directing the sequel, '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,' which Alex Garland will once again write and is expected to release on 16th January, 2026.
