The worldwide phenomenon that is 'Hello Kitty' is finally making its way to the big screen. Created by Sanrio in 1974, 'Hello Kitty' has become a global pop-culture and merchandising icon, appearing on everything from stationery and fashion to theme parks and cafés. Now, for the first time, the character will star in a major Hollywood theatrical film, co-produced by Warner Bros.

According to the studio statement, 'Hello Kitty' and her companions will go on a "cinematic adventure sure to delight audiences of all ages," even though the entire plot details are still under wraps. Dana Fox, who wrote the script for 'Wicked,' and Leo Matsuda, who has worked as a story-artist on well-known animated films, are the set film’s directors. Additionally, according to Sanrio, the themes will stick to the company’s core values of "kindness, connection, and friendship."
