Jamie Lee Curtis has responded to a critical review of her new Disney comedy 'Freakier Friday', the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 hit 'Freaky Friday'.
The exchange began when Time magazine shared an excerpt from their review on social media, describing the sequel as an unnecessary follow-up with lacklustre costumes, embarrassing moments, and little to add beyond nostalgia for the original. The post also suggested that the film was released alongside other sequels, offering more innovative takes on their source material. Jamie Lee Curtis reacted by remarking that the assessment seemed overly harsh and emphasised that many viewers — herself included — enjoyed the movie.

What is 'Freakier Friday' About?
'Freakier Friday' revisits the beloved body-swap premise of the original, in which Jamie Lee Curtis played mother Tess and Lindsay Lohan portrayed daughter Anna. In the sequel, another body swap occurs, but this time the story incorporates a multigenerational twist. Chad Michael Murray also reprises his role.
At the film’s July premiere, Murray praised the experience of working again with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lohan, noting that returning for the sequel came with high expectations but that the team delivered a result as strong as, if not stronger than, the original.

While Time offered a negative take, audience reception tells a different story. The film currently holds a 94% audience score and a 73% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it opened to over $30 million at the box office.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra, 'Freakier Friday' is now playing in theatres, drawing in fans of the original as well as new viewers eager to see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lohan reunite on screen.
