Sam Claflin has confirmed he won’t return as Oswald Mosley in the upcoming 'Peaky Blinders' movie, 'The Immortal Man'. The announcement brings an end to weeks of fan speculation about whether the British actor would return for the next chapter of the acclaimed crime saga.

Claflin, who joined 'Peaky Blinders' in season five, played a fictionalised version of British fascist politician Oswald Mosley. His portrayal introduced a powerful and polarising villain who clashed with Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby, shaping much of the series’ tension heading into its final season.

Sam Claflin is Saying Goodbye to the Movie Adaptation

Although Claflin's performance was widely praised by both critics and viewers, he recently clarified in an interview with Metro that he won’t appear in the film adaptation. He jokingly acknowledged that he could have kept the rumours alive, but ultimately revealed that he’s not part of the cast. Still, Sam Claflin expressed genuine excitement for the project as a fan of the show, saying he looks forward to seeing how the story continues.

The 'Peaky Blinders' film was first confirmed by series creator Steven Knight at the 2022 National Television Awards and was later officially announced by Netflix in June 2024. Production is underway, with returning star Cillian Murphy joined by new cast members Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson. While a release date has yet to be revealed, anticipation continues to grow.

Though Sam Claflin is stepping away from 'The Immortal Man', he left the door open for the possibility that his character could still exist in the broader 'Peaky Blinders' universe. He noted that the real-life Mosley lived until the age of 84, and the film is rumoured to be set in a post-war period where Mosley’s influence had begun to fade. Whether or not the character resurfaces remains to be seen.
