Fresh off the premiere of her latest film, 'Christy' at AFI Fest, Sydney Sweeney is gearing up for another major project with Apple Original Films. The streaming giant is developing 'That Man From Rio,' an adventure comedy that will star Sweeney and be directed by 'Fast & Furious' filmmaker Justin Lin.
About Sydney Sweeney's 'That Man From Rio'
The movie is a modern reimagining of the 1964 French classic 'That Man From Rio,' which originally starred Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac. The original film followed a young soldier on leave who embarks on a wild adventure through Rio de Janeiro to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend. The stylish action and humour of the film inspired generations of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, who later credited it as an influence on the creation of Indiana Jones.

In this new version, Lin will produce through his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner alongside Academy Award–nominated producer Kevin Walsh, who will produce under his first-look deal with Apple TV through The Walsh Company. Chase Palmer, known for 'It,' penned the screenplay. Sydney Sweeney will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
Industry insiders reveal that Walsh has long been a passionate admirer of the original film and spent years pursuing the remake rights. Once secured, both Lin and Sweeney quickly came aboard the project, which has already begun generating strong interest from top-tier actors for the film’s title role.

Sydney Sweeney's Growing Collaboration With Apple
'That Man From Rio' continues Sweeney's growing collaboration with Apple Original Films following her role opposite Julianne Moore in the Apple TV+ thriller 'Echo Valley,' now streaming globally. The project also marks a reunion between Sweeney and Walsh, who produced ‘Echo Valley’.
Under his production banner, Walsh has produced several Apple projects, including Siân Heder's upcoming 'Being Heumann,' as well as 'The Instigators' and Ridley Scott's multi-Oscar-nominated epic 'Napoleon.'
