Tom Cruise is set to receive one of the film industry’s highest honours at the 2025 Governors Awards, recognising his decades-long contributions to cinema and his unwavering support for the theatrical experience. The acclaimed actor will be presented with an Honorary Oscar in November at the prestigious ceremony, taking place inside the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Tom Cruise, best known for his iconic roles in 'Top Gun: Maverick', the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise, 'Jerry Maguire', 'Born on the Fourth of July', and 'Risky Business', has earned four previous Oscar nominations throughout his career. This new accolade celebrates not only his impressive filmography but also his deep dedication to the art of filmmaking. Widely recognised as one of the most successful and highest-grossing actors in history, Cruise is known for performing his own stunts and maintaining a deep commitment to storytelling on the big screen.

Other 2025 Governors Awards Recipients

Alongside Tom Cruise, other luminaries will also be honoured at the 2025 Governors Awards. Beloved music icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton will be honoured with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, a recognition of her lifelong dedication to charitable causes and giving back. Joining her at the 2025 Governors Awards are Debbie Allen—renowned choreographer, actor, and producer—whose groundbreaking work has shaped both stage and screen, and Wynn Thomas, the creative force behind the production design of some of Hollywood’s most memorable films.

Academy President Janet Yang stated that this year’s Governors Awards will honour four extraordinary individuals whose careers have made a lasting impact on the filmmaking world. She noted Tom Cruise's unwavering dedication not just to acting, but also to the broader film community and the theatrical experience. She praised Allen as a trailblazer whose work spans genres and generations, lauded Parton for her unmatched humanitarian spirit, and recognised Thomas for his artistic mastery in bringing some of the most enduring cinematic worlds to life.

The upcoming ceremony will also mark another notable return—Conan O'Brien is set to host the 2026 Oscars after a well-received performance at the 97th Academy Awards. His return was announced earlier this year with his signature humour, referencing his interest in hearing a certain long-overdue acceptance speech finally reach its conclusion.
