Kanye West has reportedly changed his name once more, marking the second time he has legally altered his identity. The rapper, who legally adopted the name Ye in 2021 after dropping Kanye Omari West, now appears to be using ‘Ye Ye’ in formal business filings.
The alteration was reportedly revealed in paperwork submitted by Ye’s chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani. These documents listed ‘Ye Ye’ as the “manager or member name” for various business entities, including Yeezy Apparel and the Yeezy Record Label. Previously, his business documents had identified him as ‘Ye West’.
He has not issued a formal public statement about this latest name change, but he seemingly hinted at it earlier in June. On 1st June, he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he intended to stop using the @kanyewest handle, explaining that his name is Ye and that he planned to start a new account reflecting that.
Back in March 2024, he had again rejected his birth name, calling it a “slave name” and insisting he be referred to solely as Ye.

The name change comes during a year marked by significant controversy surrounding the artist. In recent months, the rapper has made a number of inflammatory statements on X, including retracting a previous apology to the Jewish community for his anti-Semitic remarks.
In February, Kanye drew backlash for a series of provocative posts after his appearance at the Grammy Awards with his wife, Bianca Censori, who wore a sheer outfit that revealed her body. During this period, he claimed to have “dominion” over her and later advertised a white T-shirt featuring a large swastika, which was listed on his website as “HH-01” – a possible reference to the “Heil Hitler” chant.
Although the website selling the item was taken down by Shopify, the company clarified that the action was due to fraud concerns rather than the content of the shirt. Nevertheless, Shopify publicly condemned the item, describing it as “vile, disgusting and inexcusable”.
Kanye later posted a follow-up, claiming he had come to the realisation that he is not a Nazi, but this statement was quickly undermined by the reappearance of swastika-themed apparel on his page just days later.
‘Donda 2’ Pulled, Twitch Ban Follows Amid Name Shift to ‘Ye Ye’
His most recent album, ‘Donda 2’, briefly appeared on streaming platforms in April but was removed within hours. Around the same time, Ye joined Twitch, only to be banned within seven minutes following an incident in which he allegedly gave a Nazi salute while shouting ‘Heil Hitler’.
Despite the formal shift to ‘Ye Ye’ in legal documents, it remains unclear whether the rapper will publicly adopt or enforce the use of this latest moniker.
