Lykke Li Releases Powerful New Single ‘Midnight Shining’

Lykke Li has unveiled her striking new single, ‘Midnight Sharing’. Released on 6th September, the acclaimed Swedish art-pop singer-songwriter teamed up with producer Greg Kurstin for the track, with Jesse Shatkin handling part of the engineering work.

On the rousing track, Li sings: “Yeah, I keep on runnin’, darlin’ / And be the shadow fallin’ / Yeah, I keep on cryin’ on for you / Last time I woke up runnin’ / Got me up, midnight shinin’ / Last time I’m dyin’ for, for you“.

‘Midnight Shining’ is Lykke Li’s fourth release this year. In March, she dropped her first single in two years, a cover of Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’ for the Netflix film Damsel. She then collaborated with Abstract Crimewave on ‘The Gambler’ in late May and appeared on Ben Böhmer’s track ‘Hiding’ in July.

Her most recent album, ‘Eyeye’ was released in 2022, marking her fifth studio record.

The artist described the record as an “attempt to distill a lifetime of romantic obsession and female fantasy into a hyper-sensory landscape,” evoking “the intimacy of listening to a voice memo on a macro dose of L**.” Shortly after its release, Li also mentioned plans to “rework” the album to create a “more ambient, instrumental, sonic dream.”
